How to make blogspot page show tag links

This blog has the tag list on the side, my new one didn't. I wanted to remove the date list and add the tag list. This was insanely difficult, partially because Google just changed everything around and a lot of help information was about the previous design.

Here's the answer:

1. Get somehow to the overview page. There's a list of property setup functions on the right side.

2. Fiddle with the "Template" options if you must, but what is really needed is to click "Layout". This takes you to a page that displays the layout as movable widgets in the places that they appear on the page.

3. Click the "Edit" link for the widget to be deleted, in this case "Blog Archive" which lists posts by date. Wait a few seconds for a window to pop up with configuration options. Down at the bottom of this configuration window is a button labeled "Remove". Click this and tell it that yes you really want to.

4. Click any "Add a Gadget" link in the layout. Wait a few seconds for a window to pop up. This lists all the "Gadgets," none of which look like any of the ordinary features we are trying to work with. However, way down at the bottom of the list are the more mundane page element, including the one that we want which in this case is the boringly named "Labels" widget. The main issue here was that for Blogger these are not called tags, they're called "Labels".

5. Now a widget box appears on the layout. Move and stretch it until it's in the proper location. Click the Edit button to set up parameters. Click "Save Configuration" to exit.

The breakthroughs that were so hard to get to via Google's help pages is that these things are called "Page Elements", and the tag list is found under the name "Labels" in the "Gadget List."

Here's the first, terribly unhelpful link from helpblogger which concerned itself with directly editing obscure tags in the HTML. It turns out that this was not at all necessary for what I was trying to do, but is interesting anyhow:

Here's a hilariously shallow description of labels, without any information about how to display them on the blog page. However at this point we have the first key, to look for terminology "label" instead of "tag":

Here's a page that states what I am trying to do (add labels as a page element) but doesn't actually go into detail about how to do it. I probably should have tried the links at the bottom of the page.

This hint looks like the current setup but is only minimally related to my quest:

This page wasn't too helpful, but this is where I realized that the "gadget" list now contains "Page Elements" as well and I finally figured out that the element I needed was there all along:

Innovage Universal Remote Apple TV

Can I use this hilariously oversize universal remote with our Apple TV (replacing the hilariously tiny remote?)

Aside from the Apple TV controls not being very comparable to a usual remote, this link seems to indicate that it's possible:

http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=61107&page=14

Specifically (although not specifically enough), it says:

"I successfully configured my Rogers UEI brand HD PVR remote to work with my Apple TV box using the instructions provided by Apple so that when I press the white AUD key (located along the top to the left of the TV and CBL keys) the keys on the remote work like the Apple TV remote. However I could not get MENU or OK|SELECT keys to send any signals to the Apple TV box so I configured the VOL+ and CH+ keys as those keys respectively. I tried using VCR and DVD instead of AUD but that didn't work either. Has anyone had the same problem? For some reason the MENU or OK|SELECT keys seem to be disabled unless you choose CBL. Still better than having to switch to the Apple TV remote to control Apple TV but it's annoying that I can't use the keys that are labelled as such. "

So, this is not an Innovage remote, but apparently there are "instructions provided by Apple"

Another forum specifically for the Innovage remote didn't mention Apple, but did mention a "code search" function for another application, it could work maybe in my case:

"To have the remote try each TV code it knows one at a time, follow these steps: Turn on your TV. Press and hold the CODE SEARCH button for at least 3 seconds until the red LED lights up and stays lit. Press the TV button on the remote so that the LED blinks once and then remains solid red. Press the ON/OFF button slowly and repeatedly until the TV turns off. The LED will blink once each time you press the ON/OFF button. Once the TV turns off, press the ENTER button to store the code and the LED will turn off. To program the remote for your VCR, repeat this process starting with turning the VCR on, then follow the steps substituting the VCR button for the TV button. I hope that helps."

Ah, here are the "instructions provided by Apple." This seems as easy as pie to try out, apparently the Apple TV box can "learn" from any remote:

Reinstall Dell Windows 7 on blank hard drive

Trying to rebuild my Dell Inspiron 5600 OS by buying a blank replacement hard drive and reinstalling the OS from the restore disks that came with the laptop. It was a bit worrisome so I did some research ahead of time and found a couple of nice guides and it all worked out fine; it turns out that there are options for complete restore. There was one issue where it didn't like a driver for the hard drive itself, I'll see if I can also dig up the links that I consulted for that one. Also it took forever to get all the extra drivers installed.

Guides to OS restoration:

Here is a pretty nice one, not the one I consulted:

Alternatives to default Notes app on iPhone part 2

Still trying to find a palatable alternative to Notes on the iPhone. With a galaxy of choices, it is hard to narrow the focus. My needs are:

-- One that can sort by first line alphabetically so that my dated lists don't get rearranged every time I edit one
-- Something that's not a nightmare of bells and whistles. Not even sure if I want note categorization.

Part of the problem has now been solved by finding a list application that will work for keeping some of my lists, which is primarily what I've been using Notes for. That application is List! (https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/list!/id377625479?mt=8). This is not one of the big name list apps, but it also is sufficiently simple that it is exactly what I want. Some links for list applications:

List! just makes lists, allows for priority levels to be defined, can do plain text import or export, that's it. No skeumorphism, no fancy iOS7 crap, no attachments, no calendar syncing, no mining my contacts (I hope). It doesn't talk to the cloud, so after the Singularity this app won't be one of the ones trying to hunt me down and kill me.
