Why does Movie Maker Suck So Much?

I downloaded Movie Maker for Windows 7 and a whole bunch of features that various forums discuss (for example, http://jtoolkit.com/video/strip_Audio_WMM.pdf) don't seem to be there. It turns out that M$ eviscerated Movie Maker for its newest release, but it is still possible to get the old version! Download it from here:

Now with Movie Maker 6 it is possible to get the timeline view, and drag a video onto the audio pane to get the audio track only, and have multiple video clips open and place them on the timeline.

As an aside, this seems to be a tortuous way to extract audio from a video using the new feature-limited version of Movie Maker:
