Using local drives with Remote Desktop

Victor knew how to set up the remote desktop to allow access on the remote machine to the drives on the local machine (very handy for transferring files back and forth. Undoubtably insecure). It is not obvious how to set this up though. It's hidden in the startup prompt for connecting to the remote host; you have to hit "options" and then under the "Local Resources" tab hit "More". This article explained it with crystal clarity, and for my new OS no less:

Accessing a shared calendar using Outlook Web Access

They set up a lovely shared calendar for our group to use on my project, but the invite request was cryptic, and the calendar didn't seem to appear on my own OWA login. Eventually I figured out that things are ten times harder with OWA rather than using Outlook directly, and there was an additional problem in that the owner of the calendar had to access it first through OWA to fix a stupid M$ software problem.

It turns out that the answer is to use a fancy URL to access the calendar, so that I do it as me but access the other calendar (the calendar has its own email address!)

All of which didn't make sense until I read the following page:

So, I started to play around with putting in other email addresses. I tried my own, I tried my friends'. For my own, it got in, for others I was blocked as expected. It seemed to be a permissions issue to access the group calendar.

This page seemed to hint that there has to be a sysadmin involved:

But my boss came back and said that he'd set it up, and sure enough the screen that came up from the direct URL was different now. Now it said "To view this content, you must first use Outlook Web Access to select the language to display it in." with a single link. When I clicked the link, it came to a very OWA-ish page that demanded that I select a language and a time zone. However, when I did that, I got a different access denied message. Finally I found the below link, which indicated that the solution is for the *owner* to go through the same series of links, set the time zone, and boom it would work for me. And that's exactly what happened to get it all finally working.

Also, my collegues who view the shared calendar with firefox don't get the buttons that allow you to switch between hourly, weekly, and monthly views.

samsung juke all sounds off mode selected

I went through a period of time where my phone didn't ring, vibrate, or anything. When I was finally scrolling through my ringtones trying to get one to play, I got the popup message "All Sounds Off Mode Selected". WTF? So, I somehow got into this mode. With the help of a googled forum post, I found that when that popup was visible, if I fiddled with the volume buttons I would get a control that allowed me to select a variety of modes, from all off to vibrate only to some others that I haven't yet tried yet. Not sure how I got in that mode, but it's clearly not accessable through the tools menu! Here's the link, which isn't exactly clear on exactly what mode this works in, but it was enough info to stumble into the solution:

The square ones are 1L, with the part number A-1-B on one handle.

Avoid the "Spice Of Life" pattern, which seems to be slightly different in size and is shown with semiclear lids rather than the soft white lids. The white lid is too loose on it.

Deleting a wireless connection in windows 7

For some reason, I couldn't figure out how to do this on my own. Due to my changing the settings at my router, but keeping the same network name, the setup for my WiFi on this laptop no longer worked. Under properties for the connection, I couldn't change the relevant setting. I wanted to just delete it and let the laptop find it anew.

The answer was in the Network and Sharing Center the whole time. In the blue side bar, for some reason invisible to me before, is an option for "Manage Wireless Networks" which pops up a new screen that shows all the WiFi network configurations that were entered so far. There was my bad connection, and right clicking on it got me a "Delete" option. Victory! Then my current network was redetected and I was able to set it up correctly.

Why must ModelSim Suck?

Only in the windows or linux world is it reasonable to expect the user to hunt down all the required libraries to do a simulation. Which is to say it is reasonable, I guess, in this unfair world.

Anyhow, when doing a ModelSim on my Actel ProAsic3e design, my module used a primitive, which consequently required the proasic3e library to simulate. To get ModelSim to know where the library was, it required two nonintuitive steps. First, I had to use the vmap command on the ModelSim console to map the name "proasic3e" to the physical library file. This also required that I figure out where it was hidden on my system, which I would never have been able to do without hints from various forum threads. Secondly, I had to specify the path name with forward rather than windows (backwards) slashes. The resulting vmap command is:

Now, "proasic3e" appears on the library tab and everything compiles and works.
